Kapparot 2026/5787

The custom of Kapparot was established after the destruction of the Second Temple as a substitute for the Scapegoat of Yom Kippur. Since we are unable to correct that level without the Temple, there is a personal substitute for sweetening the Judgments of Yesod. This can be done on the ninth day of the Ten Days of Repentance, which is on the level of Sephirat Yesod. This can be done in the early morning before dawn, a time that there’s grace in the Universe. The animal that represents the Judgments of Sephirat Yesod in the physical world is the rooster.

Nowadays, while many want to participate in the Kapparot practice, it is almost impossible to slaughter for everyone in such a short time. Therefore, it became customary that one of the rabbis makes the Kapparot Ceremony, in time, before dawn of the Yom Kippur’s Eve. The Ceremony is done for all the people who give their names and their special donation. This donation is called Pidion (redeeming) KAPPAROT (of Atonement).

Rabbi Shaul Youdkevitch will perform the ceremony, on the eve of Yom Kippur according to the Kavanot (meditations) and custom of the Ariza”l, in Jerusalem.

The Pidion (redeeming) KAPPAROT (of Atonement) is 36 ILS (12 US$) per person.

Registration is till Saturday night, Sep. 19, 2026 at 11 pm Jerusalem time.

It is recommended to do the Kapparot ceremony and make the donation after Rosh HaShanah.

Before you make your donation, take the amount of money you are donating in your right hand and circle it over your head and over heads of family members you donate in their behalf, while saying three times:

‘This is my (your) exchange, this is my (your) substitute, this is my (your) atonement. This money will go to charity, while I (you) will enter and proceed to a good long life and to peace.’

When you make your online donation you redeem the cash that you used for the ceremony, so this cash can be used for any purpose.

All names should be sent as a text message – Males and Females separately (WhatsApp or Telegram) to:
